I don´t like treating labours

I don´t like treating labour, says Mohamed Elhamalawi who won in Big Christmas photo contest. What else he does not like about his job of paint inspector and what the other way around he likes? Keep on reading and you will find out how did he get his winning picture.

 

With your picture you won in our Big Christmas photo contest and got Paint Inspector´s Field Guide from TQC. Could you describe a bit what the situation was about?

The situation was after priming of water tank contractor delay in second coat application more than a month. We requested him to wash it by water before application of second coat. Two days after second coat application we found delaminating / detachment everywhere.

By thorough investigation, we found that contractor stored water in contaminated drums (200 ltr drums) and it contained diesel. The picture is taken last November in Algeria.

 

  • What is the background of you as a paint inspector?

I have been working in coating field since 2001 as a chemist. I am certified by NACE, SSPC and BGAS. I have sufficient experience to control the work and to estimate the faults and defects, then advice both, contractor and owner.

 

  • Your projects make you travel all around the world. Where furthest from your homeland have you ever been?

Furthest land where I was is China, while I am living in Egypt. I have also been in Nigeria, Algeria, India, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and now I am in Qatar.

 

  • What do you like about your profession?

I like technology updates very much, solving problems, saving the environment and cost by controlling corrosion. Travelling is also very good point of my job.

 

  • Is there also something that you do not like?

Yes, I do not like many things. For example how people treat labors in this field, lazy inspectors and cheating contractors.

 

  • Where is your next project taking place?

I have not decided yet, there are two options for me. I may go to United Arab Emirates or Nigeria.

 

  • Is there some project that you will always remember?

Yes, QGX II project in Qatar, I will never forget. I got most of my experience in that project, met very good people. It was first abroad project for me, got my NACE certificate, SSPC certificate and I came to know the exact meaning of system and documentation.

 

  • What are your hobbies?

I like reading, travelling, swimming and internet browsing. Thank to internet I can get new informations, get friends and for sure research in our field.

 

  • Please continue  in following sentence with first thing coming to your mind:

I always wanted to meet other people with different civilization, cultures and different ages. Thanks to these people I get more experiences and knowledge. Also, I always wanted to know updates in coating technology and formulation.
