Read the interview with the fifth winner of the photo contest Israel Sastre. Find out where he took the winning pictures and what he likes or dislikes on his profession.

  • With your picture you won Paint-Inspector´s Field Guide from TQC. Could you describe a bit what the situation was about? When the picture was taken?

This picture was taken in August,2011 in Agrapisa´s facilities, during the application of a two coats system, using a robotic coating unit that our team has developed for internal pipe coating issues. The quality required for this project was very high, so we needed to spend much time preparing optimal condition for the application, improving the existing design of the robot and adapting it to new challenges. It took about 9 months work.

  • What is the background of you as a paint inspector – how did you encounter that kind of job?
  • After four years as workshop operator, I had an opportunity as a foreman in a project inBilbao,Spain. Everything went right, and I started to work in the field department where quality control was one of my tasks. Six year later, in 2008, I decided to make the Frosio´s course and I succeeded. From then until now, I am the Quality and Project Manager of Agrapisa & JC.Group, one of the most important coating enterprises inSpain.

  • Your project make you travel all around the world. Where furthest from Spain have you been?

Half of our work is developed in our facilities. Some international projects from Alaska,New York, Arabian Emirates,Qatar,Venezuela, etc., send to us material for coating. On the other hand I must travel often to other countries in the European Union.

  • What do you like about your profession?

Relationship with the people is the most satisfying part of my job, visiting other countries is very interesting too. If you have the opportunity to develop new methods to perform the works, you can become even more satisfying.

  • Is there also something what you do not like?

I dislike people who think they know everything. In this profession they are very common. I’m really worried about the unsafe situations there the operators suffer in many situations around the different places. I hope this kind of situations will be solved in a next future.

  • Where is your next project taking place?

In fact at this moment I have a couple of them, but they are small ones. Here in Spain is not a good time for work.

  • What are your hobbies?

I like to paint (other painting, art), and riding motorcycles. I also like diving into the sea, but what I like most is playing the saxophone. I love music.

  • Please continue  in following sentence with first thing coming to you mind:

I always wanted to ……be a good father. I have two wonderful children whom I love madly.
