Some people are too proud to admit they are wrong

Read an interview with Adrian Dcruz who is one of winners of our Christmas photo contest! As he says: "Some people are too proud to admit they are wrong".

What is the background of you as a paint inspector?

It all started when I joined a Paint Manufacturer as a Laboratory Technician way back in 1989! I was carrying out QC checks on production batches and one thing led to another which led me in the direction of being a paint inspector for the Company and brought me to where I am now.

  • Your projects make you travel all around the world. Where furthest from your homeland have you been?

Offshore NIGERIA and Offshore Ivory Coast!

  • What do you like about your profession?

The weird and wonderful world of inspecting under various conditions and structures and challenges of working with innumerable human characters!

  • Is there also something what you do not like?

Yes, I totally dislike inexperienced inspectors who pretend to know everything and are too proud to admit when they are wrong.

  • During your job you have to have interesting experiences, what is for you the most interesting thing you have experienced as a paint inspector?

In Korea, I only realized that they employ all ladies to do the repair and touch-up painting works. In most of the projects I have been inspecting and supervising, all workers are male. In my experience only in Korea have I come across the workers who carry out the repairs are women.

  • Did you have some project which was from some reason special?

Yes, I was called to carry out a corrosion survey for a conversion vessel that was over in Africa. It was special to me because it was my very first corrosion survey assignment and the client made a request for this as he was totally dissatisfied with the earlier corrosion report which he considered unprofessional.

  • Where is your next project taking place?

Over here in Singapore – The Ivar Aasen Field Development Project

  • What are your hobbies?

Previously I liked squash, basketball, golf and swimming and presently I like board games, mostly chess.

  • Please continue  in following sentence with first thing coming to you mind:

I always wanted to add another certification to my present NACE Level 3 certification.
