POWER TOOL CLEANING

The use of power impact, rotary, or rotary impact tools to remove loose paint, rust, mill scale, and other loose contaminants from a surface. The specification SSPC-SP 3, “Power Tool Cleaning,” is a consensus standard covering the procedures necessary for power tool cleaning of steel surfaces. Some tools can remove all paint, rust, and mill scale, and produce a surface profile in accordance with SSPC-SP 11, “Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal.” Consult these consensus standards for specific details and requirements.
